NanoXCAN featured in Técnico’s World Health Day campaign
To mark World Health Day, Técnico launched a campaign showcasing research projects developed at the school that contribute, or may contribute in the future, to advances in health. NanoXCAN was one of the projects selected for this initiative.
In the campaign, Marta Fajardo, NanoXCAN coordinator, discussed how the knowledge developed within NanoXCAN builds on previous work in advanced X-ray imaging. This includes the development of brighter and more compact X-ray sources, as well as the use of automation and machine learning tools to improve imaging processes.
These advances connect with previous research carried out by VOXEL, Marta’s research group, in phase-contrast X-ray imaging and wavefront sensing, which has already led to promising applications in advanced mammography. In particular, this work aims to improve image contrast and support earlier breast cancer detection while keeping radiation doses low. This line of research has also contributed to several international patents and to the creation of the spin-off company Letsee Imaging, dedicated to developing new technologies for medical diagnosis.
NanoXCAN’s participation in Técnico’s World Health Day campaign highlights the project’s contribution to the broader development of imaging technologies with potential impact in health.
